Tay Canal (National Historic Site & UNESCO World Heritage Site)
The reason Perth exists where it does — a 9.8 km canalized stretch of the Tay River, completed 1887, connecting the town directly to the Rideau system at Beveridge Bay. It carries the same triple designation as the Rideau itself — National Historic Site, UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Canadian Heritage River.
