Why stop
Silver Lake Provincial Park sits on the western edge of the village, and it’s the corridor’s built-in rest stop: a sand beach, picnic tables under the pines, and a lake that warms up properly by July, all literally on Highway 7 with no detour at all. Day-use fees apply in season. The swim is worth it on any hot drive, and if you’ve got a canoe on the roof this is the easiest launch on the whole route.
Don’t want to pay the day-use fee for a quick dip or a five-minute picnic? A small side road off the highway leads to a free public access point, with parking, picnic tables, and a short walk through the trees to the water.
The other reason to know Maberly is that it anchors a cluster of small halls that programme more between them than most towns twice the size. The hall on Maberly-Elphin Road runs a diners’ club and gardening sessions through the season. ABC Hall at Bolingbroke, thirteen minutes south, keeps a weekly calendar of mahjong, music and trivia going most of the year. And twenty minutes north up the Elphin road, the Ag Hall at McDonalds Corners runs a Sunday market all summer and a fair that has been going since the 1850s.
Beach conditions and day-use details are checked each season.
